Today I celebrated the commencement of The Tamil month of Aadi which is very special to Goddess Parvati ( Maa Shakti, the Consort of Lord Shiva). We worship the Goddess in her various forms and appreciate Mother Nature for blessing us with important resources like water.
On the 18th day of Aadi month, we celebrate Aadi Perukku across Tamil Nadu to appreciate the life supporting properties of water, one of nature’s gifts to humanity. On this day Mother Nature is worshipped as Amman divinities. (The Great Goddess).
On this day, people gather outside the riverbank and offer their prayers. The women prepare mixed variety of rice such as lemon rice, coconut rice, tamarind rice, curd rice, mint rice etc. as an offering to God after bathing and praying in the river. (Mostly Cauvery).
I made several delicacies like Sambar Vada, roasted vegetable, lentil pudding, vada (fritters), cucumber salad mixed in Yogurt. Unfortunately, I couldn’t click the pictures of other dishes due to restrictions at home.
