Pilfering and Pies by Karen McSpade is an amazing standalone prequel to Piper Sandstone Culinary Cozy mystery series. This one is completely unique with an unexpected twist in the tale.

Piper Sandstone is working undercover as Sharon in Crabby Clam Café. Her best friends are Rosemary, Patty Sue, Dorothy and Margie who have solved murder mysteries alongwith her.
Mayor Alicia Townsend is honoring them with Mayor’s Awards for Excellence!. The next day when they meet at the cafe, Mrs. Collins, the elderly widow at her mid seventies, approaches them with an unusual case. Someone has been trespassing in her property, uprooting her flowers, stealing the skeleton meant for Halloween Decoration.

Piper has installed CCTV in her room but there’s no footage of the culprit. This is one of my favorite books and I would recommend it to all the cozy mysteries.
