January 1 – stampede at Vaishno Devi Temple Due to a fight between two groups of pilgrims, the area at Gate No. 3 of the Vaishno Devi Temple became crowded around 2:15 AM, and people started suffocating. 12 persons were crushed to death and 16 others suffered injuries as a result of the brawl.

January 4-

The Mumbai Police have detained Vishal  Kumar Jha (in Bengaluru) and Shweta Singh (in Uttarakhand) in relation to the Bulli Bai  app, which preyed on Muslim women by  selling their altered photographs online.

5 January – After a security breach and farmer protests, Narendra Modi’s convoy became trapped on a flyover in the Firozpur district of India.

6 January -The Wire, an Indian digital media outlet, claims the existence of a tool called Tek Fog that is used by the BJP IT Cell to disseminate hate, amplify propaganda, and manipulate public perception on social media.Neeraj Bishnoi, a 21-year-old engineering graduate from Jorhat, Assam, is detained by Delhi Police. He is said to be the brains behind the development of the website “Bulli Bai,” where Muslim women were kept for auction.

January 8 The dates for the legislative assembly elections in five states in 2022 are announced by the Indian Election Commission on January 8. Election day will start on February 10 in Uttar Pradesh, February 14 in Punjab, Uttarakhand, and Manipur, and February 27 in Uttarakhand.

13 January – Maynaguri train disaster – At around 5:00 PM in the Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal, a train derailed between New Maynaguri Railway Station and New Domohani Railway Station due to a problem with the locomotive engine. There are at least nine fatalities.

21 January – As part of the ongoing Central Vista Redevelopment Project, the Amar Jawan Jyoti, which has been blazing at India Gate for the past 50 years in remembrance of the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, was combined with the eternal flame at the National War Memorial. Hijab dispute in Karnataka Students and teachers were asked to take off their hijabs and  burqas outside the school gates as part of the  high court’s temporary decision, which was  applied in all schools and institutions throughout Karnataka.

Attack on Srinagar on March 6, 2022

On March 9, India unintentionally launched a  BrahMos missile from Sirsa, Haryana, which  struck Mian Channu in the Khanewal District of Punjab, Pakistan. 

In five states’ legislative elections held on  March 10, the BJP triumphed by defeating  incumbents in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand,  Goa, and Manipur. 

While in Punjab, AAP defeated the ruling  Indian National Congress with a resounding  victory.

Accident involving a cable vehicle on April 10, 2022, in India.
