THE MAHARAJA EXPRESS: INDIA’S LUXURY TRAIN

Hi Friends,

My father loved railways. I inherited this love from him. ‘I love watching the videos of the train journeys of all the luxurious trains across the world. Today, I would love to discuss about one of the most luxurious trains of the world, The Maharaja Express of India.

Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation owns and runs the premium tourist train known as The Maharajas’ Express (IRCTC). Between the months of October and April, it runs four routes primarily via Rajasthan across North-West and Central India. Between 2012 through 2018, The Maharaja Express was acknowledged as “The World’s Leading Luxury Train” at the World Travel Awards and also got noticed at the Conde Nast Travelers Reader Choice Travel Award.

The Maharaja Express commended its operations from March, 2010 in collaboration with Cox and Kings India Ltd. to form a joint venture Royale Indian Rail Tours Ltd. (RIRTL). This partnership ended in August 2011 and now The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation ( IRCTC) has taken over its management.

The Maharaja Express has 23 carriages consisting of accommodation, dining, bar, lounge, generator, and store cars .A total of 84 passengers can be accommodated in the 14 guest carriages. The train also features two dining cars, a designated bar car, and a lounge dubbed the Rajah Club with a private bar. The train also has a water purification facility. Passengers can purchase gifts or mementos from a souvenir shop on board.

The prices of the tickets depend on the itinerary booked and the choice of rooms but the starting fare may range from $7380 for a single adult for the deluxe cabin to $23700 for a presidential suite. For more information, you can check out the website :https://www.maharajas-express-india.com.
