POETIC THURSDAYS (26)

RAT RACE : A POEM BY ME.

And the rat race has already begun.
In a fight for supremacy, people are killing each other for fun.
Why are the words slowly being replaced by a gun?
The hate wave is more unbearable than the heat wave of the sun.

Are we really independent or have become a slave?
To the machines, smartphones and gadgets, digging our own grave.
New variants of diseases are coming up; now only God can save.
Some are living in a world of fantasy, being naive.

The rat race has just begun to take over the Facebook and Instagram.
We are being watched over by CCTV and spycam.
While the corrupt politicians are making money by scam.
Enjoying the hard earned money of the taxpayers like having bread and jam.

Poor children are the victims of this rat race.
They end their lives, as they are unable to face,
The wrath of their parents for scoring low marks in the exams as a matter of disgrace.
When will this atrocity stop? When will the humans see the error of their ways.

Please stop the rat race to outdo each other.
All of us are the children of the same mother (Earth).
Why don't we stop slitting the throats of one another?
Why is living in peace such a bother?

Please stop this rat race for the sake of humanity.
All are equal for Mother Nature, let's give up vanity.
The meaningless violence is an act of insanity.
Let's practice kindness, compassion, and charity.

  1. Oh Aparna, I began to pick out my favorite lines, but after rereading this poem, it is so true in its entirety. Girl, you nailed this. πŸ‘πŸΌ We ask these questions, we watch these diabolical behaviors, we observe the shameful greed that oppresses so many, and the misleading of leaders leading people astray. πŸ˜– Somehow, people turn a blind eye and deaf ear to what’s going on. But eventually, if it hasn’t affected the rat infested people, or those who remain complicit, it will catch up to them. Sooner or later. When it does, it won’t look so pretty. 😱

Thank you for this wonderful reflection on life and the life surrounding us Aparna! May many eyes be opened to the truth your amazing poem holds! πŸ€©πŸŽ†πŸ˜πŸŒΊπŸ₯°πŸ’–πŸ˜˜πŸ’‹πŸ˜Š
