ASSUMPTION: THE BANE OF HUMAN INTELLIGENCE: MY VIEWS

Good morning friends,
It’s Monday again, the beginning of a new week. Today I want to share my opinion on the illogical, highly unreliable, idiotic art of assumption. I admit I have been a part of this unscientific functioning of a normal brain. But experiences taught me never to assume anything. I am a human, of course, and I am bound to make mistakes. It would be a lie if I say that I have completely given up assuming things. However, I have stopped making assumptions upto a great extent than before.
Humans claim to be the most intelligent creatures on earth ( An assumption). Well, science textbooks, scientists and researchers may confirm that our brain functioning is far superior to the birds and animals. We can think, speak, laugh and do so many things that animals can’t do. Ok, I agree upto some extent. Now I ask these geniuses a question. Where do these so-called super intelligent humans leave their brains when indulging in self-destructive mode? They don’t think at all while spewing out garbage from their big mouths, saying hurtful words to each other, or engaging in war to prove their superiority. What made humans to invent weapons and nuclear weapons? If they are so intelligent, then why are they destroying the very planet in which they live? It reminds me of a story in Hindi that I leaned when I was in fifth grade. It’s about a foolish woodcutter called Sheikhchilli who cut the very branch of the tree on which he was sitting. There are so many stories of human stupidity that this assumption is busted. Are we really intelligent? Are we using our brain properly? What’s more pathetic than a idiot is an idiot who thinks he is Einstein, highly intelligent, enlightened and so on. And I would be the greatest idiot on the earth if I assume that all the human beings are rotten by nature. My point is not to criticize humans but to discourage people from assuming things. We have to think carefully before doing any activity or forming an opinion on anything because what we see on the surface may not be the entire truth.
We, in India, generally assume that the arranged marriages fixed on auspicious dates after matching the horoscopes are always successful. This is totally bullshit. Dates or horoscopes have nothing to do with the success or failure of a marriage. It entirely depends on the personality traits and characters of both the husband and the wife. I have still not forgiven the stupid astrologer who matched our horrorscopes ( horoscopes) . I assumed ghosts or demons didn’t exist until I got married and saw my brother getting married to an evil witch. Those are the dates of accidents for both of us. Our respective marriage anniversaries are the painful reminders of the death of our freedom. πππππ.
Our greatest assumption that only the wealthy people are the happiest because they have everything is wrong. No one in this world, rich or poor, young or old, irrespective of any religion, caste, creed or community is without any problems. The wealthy worry about their health, how to prevent their existing bank balance from dwindling, the press infringing on their privacy and monitoring their every move and to maintain their social status. The middle class family worry about the rising inflation, how to provide a square meal for their family, and stability of their job. The poor mainly worry about how to survive in this world and avoid getting crushed under the social ladder.
Sometimes we might be jealous of a neighbor or a relative who has bought a new car Or enjoying a vacation abroad or bought a new property. We assume that acquiring these things make them very happy but we fail to see the heavy expenditure involved in their purchase and maintenance. It leaves a huge dent in the bank balance of the buyer. He / she is also under the constant fear of getting robbed or losing them to the income tax department.
When it comes to our mother, we take her silence for granted and assume that she’s absolutely happy and approves of our casual attitude and depending on her for everything. We don’t realize this until we become parents. Our mom’s silence may not only be out of pure love and affection but also because of her wisdom that it’s useless to argue with people who refuse to use their common sense.
According to a quote by Mark Twain.
” Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.”
No, I am not feeling bitter towards anyone nor do I despise being a human. I am just against the act of assumption. Assumption is good only to solve algebraic expressions in Mathematics. As my dear Kym suggested, never assume anything because ‘assume’ makes an ass out of U and me.
Thank you so much for taking your precious time to visit my website. Hope you enjoyed reading my blogs. ππ

Very apt observation Aparna. Mere assumptions lead us to nowhere! Only wisdom and practical thinking can.

Aparna, a truly agree with and love your statements: “Where do these so-called super intelligent humans leave their brains when indulging in self-destructive mode? “I also love the statement about your mother: “Our momβs silence may not only be out of pure love and affection but also because of her wisdom that itβs useless to argue with people who refuse to use their common sense.”

You raise so much to think about in this post Aparna. I see your thoughts on “assumption” and raise it with “acceptance”. We tend to go about our lives as they are, and accept what is, but do things have to be this way? Throw in some “what if’s” every now and again, and see where it takes us. Thank you for making me think. π₯°
