MONDAY BLUES (8)

NEGATIVE ATTITUDE : A POEM BY ME

Good morning friends,

I thought of all the comments I received when I started blogging and decided to make a career out of writing. My relatives tried to convince me that writing won’t give you a decent income. Go for a teaching job or open a coaching class. I did start my coaching class , teaching Hindi to non-Hindi speaking students. There were 2 and then there were none. I don’t know whether the students found my teaching boring or the subject boring. It closed within 2 months of opening.

After this debacle, I decided to follow my heart and concentrate on writing. My bitter experience with constant discouragement from my acquaintances turned my personality around. I feel that every individual is blessed with a unique talent that needs constant motivation and the world is quite spacious enough for people who share similar dreams and achieve them. This is a funny poem mocking people with narrow-minded attitude.

" What are your plans for the future?" They ask. " Planning to write a book." " Hmph, not an easy task."
" Are you sure your book will sell? "
I shrug and reply, " Only time will tell."

They insist on my going to work.
I look at their pitiful state and add with a smirk.
"Are you working for a gossip magazine? Nice"
"How much do they pay for your nonsensical advice?" ( My counter- questions)

Their face turns a shade deep red,
As they watch me in silence instead.
I decide to turn the tables on them.
And pluck out the roots of interference from the stem.

"You aren't JK Rowling," they hit back, " Step out of your fantasy."
I reply with a smile and say," Take it easy."
"You are also wasting your time on Starmaker when you sing."
" The donkeys on our street have chosen you as their king."

" How dare you liken us with donkeys?" they say.
" I am sorry, " I reply, " For insulting the donkeys anyway."
" Please don't judge others on the basis of wealth or status.
Success or failure is bound to happen for all of us."

They try to discourage me, " Who would want to buy your books?"
" The same people who like your ridiculous looks."
The same people whom you pester and follow for the likes on your post.
They leave nice comments though you look like a ghost."

Unable to bear humiliation, they left in a huff.
Sometimes, it's advisable to take a stance tough.
People can't be pleased all the time.
Talking to pessimists is a sort of avoidable crime.

Money is important but so are people.
It's easy to break someone's heart with stupid words of discouragement. But very difficult to maintain a good relationship. I wish we had enough sense than to stop making fun of someone's dreams. If we can't appreciate or encourage others, then we shouldn't discourage them. Remember, we are all the children of Mother Earth and bound together by a special relationship of humanity.

Thank you so much for taking your precious time to visit my website. Hope you enjoyed reading my blogs. 😊😊

  3. Continue to strive for your dreams and not that of others who think you should do something you really don’t want to. All too often when things don’t happen as fast as we would like for them to, we tend to give up, because we don’t receive the type of support from others that we would like to get. All too often it is because they can’t see your visions, nor understand your dreams because your visions and dreams are very different from theirs. Don’t ever let this stop you Aparna!

God created you for what purpose you are to serve, not that of someone else’s. If YOU feel you need to give up, let that be YOUR decision and not based on someone else’s theory. Continue to strive, thrive, and be the driver of your dreams, not that of someone else’s. So proud of you girl. πŸ€—πŸ’–πŸŒ·πŸ¦‹πŸ₯°πŸŒΊπŸ€©
