DELIGHTFUL SATURDAYS WITH MY FAVORITE AUTHORS AND POETS (14)

TOP TEN FAVORITE BOOKS OF MINE.

Good morning friends,

I hope you are enjoying your weekend. Today I am going to present a countdown of my most favorite books which I would also recommend for reading. Let’s start the countdown.

10. MURDER AT THE MANOR – C.T. MITCHELL

Amazon.in

Lady Margaret Turnbull investigates the mysterious death of Former UK British army Major, Digby Roberts, poisoned during a birthday celebration given for his adopted daughter Natasha at his prestigious luxury manor on the outskirts of Bangalow, a sleepy country village in northern New South Wales, Australia. ( Amazon) She reminds me of Sherlock Holmes as she solves the case before Detective Tom Sullivan could rack his brains. Her power of observation is outstanding as the element of suspense is well maintained till the end.

9. APPLE ORCHARD MYSTERIES- CHELSEA THOMAS

Goodreads

This is a very delightful cozy mystery series by Chelsea Thomas. It’s funny, cute, very very thrilling, adventurous and occasional flirting between Chelsea and Detective Wayne is the icing on the cake. Chelsea shares a special relationship with her aunt, Miss May, while their friend, Miss Teeny provides the laughter content as these Daredevil ladies solve various cases together.

8. SANDY BAY CoZy MYSTERIES – AMBER CREWES

Amazon.in

Author Amber Crewes has authored delightful, amazing, and delicious books in the form of The Sandy Bay Cozy mysteries. The protagonist, Meghan Truman, opens her own bakery in Sandy Bay. Inspite of belonging to a wealthy family, Meghan is a fiercely independent woman. I love her character. She’s bold, kind, friendly, and inquisitive. Meghan gets involved in so many murder cases that she’s gaining quite a reputation as an amateur detective. She begins on a wrong note with the handsome officer, Jack Irvin. There are 26 books in this series published according to the alphabetical order. All the cases are very interesting.

7. HER DEEPEST FEAR -KELLY UTT

Amazon.com

This book will leave you craving for more. Author Kelly Utt simply rocks with this fantastic domestic suspense. I was so impressed that I read this book twice.

Cate Brady is devastated to learn about her husband’s accidental death. She begins to suspect she’s being followed and is sort of paranoid. She can’t shake the feeling that there’s something wrong. Is her fear baseless or is she being stalked and by whom? It’s too good to be missed.

6. THE CASE OF THE MISSING MILK MONEY – JIM STEVENS

Amazon.com

I wish this series could be made into a movie. I would dream of Jim Carrey playing Detective Richard Sherlock who fumbles a lot while solving a case. I finished reading six of these books and the series had me completely addicted. I laughed so much that my stomach pained. This is a fabulous, tremendous, awesome, most hilarious, mind blowing entertainer. I especially love Tiffany Richmond’s brainless beauty type of character and the way she croons, “Ooh, Mr. Sherlock!” and he falls or hurts himself while working.

Richard investigates the missing milk money from the canteen of his daughters’ school. If you want to enjoy the fusion of suspense with comedy, definitely read the series.

5. TELL ME YOUR DREAMS – SIDNEY SHELDON

Wikipedia

I have read many books of Sidney Sheldon but this one is simply the best. The story is about Ashley Patterson is a hardworking woman in her late 20s, Toni Prescott, bold and vivacious, and Alette Peters, a shy artist. Ashley is worried about a possible stalker and calls for police protection but the cop on duty is killed. Prior to the cop’s murder, two other murders are reported. The MO is the same. Wow. I couldn’t stop reading even for a moment.

4. MINT, CHIP AND MURDER- ERIN HUSS

Amazon.in

I am quite surprised at the rate of my falling in love with new, talented authors. I admit I used to read the works of limited authors like Sidney Sheldon, Agatha Christie, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. But Kindle introduced me to some really awesome ones.

I have already reviewed this book. But can’t stop praising it enough. Excellent, deadly combination of outstanding humor, and an edge of the seat thriller. Every page is funny. You can’t help but fall in love with Cambria Klyne, a property manager, aiming to get a better job at the Dashwoods but has to solve the murder case of a skeleton discovered in the attic by one of the tenant, Fox.

3. THE RAILWAY CHILDREN – E.NESBITT

Read -at-home-mom

It’s a highly emotional, inspirational, and a thrilling story about three children, Roberta aka Bobby, Phyllis and Peter who are forced to leave their magnificent house in London and move on to live a life of poverty with their mother in a small cottage in the countryside after their father gets arrested on espionage charges. They make it a point to visit the railway station daily and befriend a gentleman who regularly commutes by 9.15 train. Their fortune is going to change for sure. The story becomes more interesting with plenty of surprises. I would give it a 10/10 perfect score. It was published in 1906. I enjoyed reading this one.

2. A LITTLE PRINCESS- FRANCES HODGSON BURNETt

A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett moved me to tears. I loved it so much that I must have re-read it numerous times. What a brilliant story! It has a universal appeal even now. The story is about Sara Crewe who joins the boarding school headed by Ms.Minchin. Her father dies tragically after his business failure. She is reduced to poverty and ill treated by Ms.Minchin. She accepts her fate and starts living in a world of imagination thinking that she is still a princess. Little does she know, what fate has in store for her. The story goes through dramatic turns to keep the readers engrossed. A must read book for children.

1. WHAT KATY DID? – SUSAN COOLIDGE

Goodreads

This is my all time favorite book, though, it’s not a murder mystery, crime thriller or a fantasy. It is an 1872 children’s book written by Sarah Chauncey Woolsey under her pen name “Susan Coolidge. ( Wikipedia)

This book captivated my heart with its beautiful story and vivid imagination. It’s awesome and definitely every child should read it. It’s about a twelve-year-old girl, Katy Carr, who is a tomboy and loves to dominate her siblings. An unfortunate accident leaves her invalid and she goes through a myriad of emotions. Her character undergoes a complete transformation after seeing her cousin Helen. Amazing! ‘What Katy Did’ holds a special place in my heart. Do read this book to know what causes Katy to change her attitude. It serves as an eye opener for kids but also the grownups. Please don’t take your life for granted.

You must be wondering why I omitted Agatha Christie and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. It’s because they are far above the stage of getting ranked. They are irreplaceable and undoubtedly the best of the best authors.

Thank you so much for taking your precious time to visit my website. Hope you enjoyed reading my blogs. 😊😊
