Jules Gabriel Verne is one of my favorite authors. He was a French novelist, poet, and playwright. He was born on 8 February 1828 at Nantes, France. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Around the world in 80 days. It’s one of my favorite books.
Around the world in 80 days is about a contest in which Phileas Fogg of London and his newly employed French valet Passepartout accept a challenge to travel around the world in 80 days for a wager of £20,000. I could never stop reading the book for a moment.
Twenty thousand leagues under the sea was another one of his creative genius in which he describes about the ships of various nationalities sighting a sea monster in 1866 . They fear it might be a Narwhal and an invitation to join the expedition is sent to Professor Pierre Aronnax, a French marine biologist and the story’s narrator. What would be the fate of the seamen? Is it a sea monster or something else?
The main theme of his books was mostly based on adventurous travel. He infused some elements of science to make his books look like science fiction. Jules Verne has been the second most-translated author in the world since 1979, ranking between Agatha Christie and William Shakespeare. ( Wikipedia) .
France regarded 2005 as Jules Verne Year to commemorate the centenary of his death. He passed away 24 March 1905 ( aged 77) at Amiens, France. In 2010, he was the most translated French Author in the world.
Journey to the Center of the Earth (1864)
From the Earth to the Moon (1865)
Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas (1870)
Around the World in Eighty Days (1872)
The Mysterious Island (1875)
These five, and most of Verne’s novels, were published in the Voyages extraordinaires series.
I am currently reading Journey to the center of the earth. I am loving it so far. Jules Verne also wrote numerous plays, short stories, autobiographical accounts, poetry, songs and scientific, artistic and literary studies. His work has been adapted into several movies and television series.
Legends like Verne are immortal or I can say that they continue to live forever through their work.
