ABOUT THE AUTHOR

J. K. Rowling, the creator of the magical world of Harry Potter was born as Joanne Kathleen Rowling on 31 July 1965 (age 56) in Yate, Gloucestershire, England. She did her graduation from the University of Exeter in 1987. She took up temporary jobs as a bilingual secretary. She was waiting for a train that was running late when she conceived the idea of Harry Potter characters in 1990. Unfortunately, it wasn’t until 1997, that she could actually write the book. Between 1990-1997, Rowling went through a very rough phase. Her mother died from mother from multiple sclerosis.She moved on to Porto, Portugal, in November 1991 and took night-classes in English as a Foreign Language, and continued to write during the day. She got married to a Portuguese television journalist Jorge Arantes in October 1992 and had her first child, Jessica, on 27 July 1993 in Portugal. Then, she divorced him after going through domestic violence. In June 1995 , she completed her first Harry Potter book ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s stone. By 1997, her manuscript was rejected by 12 publishers before Bloomsbury published Philosopher’s Stone with an initial print run of 500 copies. The rest is history. Harry Potter series has been a phenomenal success making her one of the wealthiest persons in the world. She is also the first author to have a net worth valued at $1 billion according to headspacegroup.co.uk. Her books have been made into movies which have been quite successful.

ACHIEVEMENTS

J. K. Rowling received an OBE ( Order of The British Empire) in 2000, and three years later, the Spanish Prince of Asturias Award for Concord.She has also received the British Book Awards’ Author of the Year and Outstanding Achievement prizes over the span of the Harry Potter series. She has also been awarded with the prestigious a Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur by the Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy. Her other honors are the fellowship of the Royal Society of Literature (FRSL),the Royal Society of Edinburgh (HonFRSE), and the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (FRCPE). ( Wikipedia)

My cousin from the US introduced me to the world of Harry Potter in 1997 itself. I have and still am madly in love with the series that has captivated us ( children, youth, adults and the aged) alike. Rowling is truly a genius.

When Harry Potter was made into a movie, Daniel Radcliffe who plays Harry became a household name. He truly is a wizard with his great looks and his brilliant performance as Harry won the hearts of billions. Whenever I think of Ron, Hermione, and Harry, I visualize Rupert Grint ( Ronald Weasley) Emma Watson ( Hermione Granger) and Daniel Radcliffe ( Harry Potter) .

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a 2016 British two-part play written by Jack Thorne based on an original story by J. K. Rowling, John Tiffany, and Thorne. ( Wikipedia)
