GRACE’S WITCHY ADVENTURES.

A PARANORMAL THRILLER SERIES BY ME (SHORT STORY)

Hi Friends!

As promised, I am back with the second episode of Grace’s witchy adventures. Let me recapitulate the story so far.

The story so far:

Grace Royce accompanies her best friend and colleague, Sharmila Gupta’s wedding in Balrampur, Uttar Pradesh, India. When Sharmila shows her fiance’s photo, Grace is shocked because she has frequently seen him in her dreams forcing an innocent girl to suicide.

She saves Sharmila from marrying a criminal after nabbing him and his friends in a shameful act of trying to hang an innocent girl.

And now, let’s go to the second chapter:

Chapter 2 :

A Witch and a mad scientist.

Grace Royce had a week of her vacation left. She felt very sorry for Sharmila after her wedding fiasco. Sharmila’s family kept a low profile for a couple of days after the cancellation of her wedding. They couldn’t stop the local tongues from wagging over Sharmila’s misfortune. Grace sought her parents’ permission to take Sharmila for sightseeing so that she could come out of her misery.

They went to Dehradun in Uttarakhand and enjoyed their stay. Grace had another bout of nightmares for two nights in succession. She saw Sharmila hanging from her ceiling fan in the bedroom. She couldn’t afford to ignore her intuition. Grace casually asked her over breakfast, ” So, our holidays are coming to an end. Are you coming back to Australia with me?” Sharmila sipped her orange juice and replied, ” I would love to, but my parents won’t allow me to go back. They want me to get married as soon as possible. I am not ready yet.” Grace tried to reassure her and said, ” Don’t you worry about your future. I am sure you will find your ideal life partner. Don’t lose your heart and take any extreme step.”

Sharmila smiled but said nothing. Grace could detect a tinge of sadness in her eyes. A couple of days later, they returned to Sharmila’s hometown, Balrampur. One day Sharmila’s parents went to visit a temple. She asked Grace to buy some groceries from a nearby store. Grace knew it was a ruse to send her out and end her life. Grace muttered under her breath, ” This situation is very frustrating. I wish I could do something with a snap of my fingers to stop Sharmila.” She snapped her fingers, and then something happened! She was back into the past within a blink of her eye. Grace pinched herself to make sure that she wasn’t dreaming. Sharmila’s Mehndi ceremony was in progress. Grace saw Vivek, her bridegroom, pacing restlessly for his cronies outside the guest house. History repeated itself, and the police arrested Vivek and his friends. Grace suddenly became aware of her newfound powers. She wanted to test them further. She prayed for wiping out the memories of the halted wedding from the minds of Sharmila, her family, and all the people who attended it.

She snapped her finger again, and a dense cloud hovered over the marriage hall. There was a light shower, and the sky cleared after a while. People seemed to wake up from a trance. Nobody remembered that it was a wedding ceremony. Sharmila questioned her, ” Why am I dressed like a bride?” Grace convinced everyone that the Guptas had conducted a sacred Hindu ritual for the welfare of the general public. Vivek and his friends were in jail while Sharmila and her family completely forgot him.

A team of evil scientists in Australia was watching Sharmila’s life drama. The big silver screen suddenly went black. X, their leader, was furious. He couldn’t understand the reason for this technical glitch. He had created a special microchip to watch her movements and a new machine that could alter anybody’s fate. He inserted the chip inside a diamond bracelet. He attended Sharmila’s engagement in disguise and gave it to her.

He started working for a research scientist after completing his studies. The scientist, Mr. Edward Fox, wasn’t a man of noble intentions. He had been working on creating devices that could defy time and destiny. Unfortunately, Fox didn’t live to see his pupil succeed. He finished his dream project and searched for a guinea pig for his experiment. He had randomly picked Vivek Mohan from his Facebook profile and tested his machine on him after offering him plenty of money. Vivek became a puppet in his hand and did his bidding. He also instructed Vivek to make her wear the bracelet so that he could keep an eye on her.

X’s plan for Vivek had worked until the day of his wedding. His plan went haywire when Vivek got arrested. It wasn’t what he had planned. Vivek should have married her and tormented her to take the extreme step. He lost his temper when this plan failed. He modified the script to include wagging tongues instigating her to suicide.

He wanted to see Sharmila’s body hanging from the ceiling fan according to the script he fed into the machine. The screen conked out before he could witness the success of his plan.

Grace wished to get back to the present after modifying the past and the unpleasant memories. She snapped her fingers and came back to the present. Sharmila called her, ” Hey, Grace! Care to have some coffee.”
She was jovial and showed no signs of depression. Grace tried to ask her about Vivek, but Sharmila failed to recognize him.

The screen came alive once more. X
and his friends wanted to see Sharmila’s funeral. X was astonished to find Sharmila hale and hearty. She was chatting with her friend as if nothing had happened. He was pulling his hair in frustration. His friends were scared of his nasty temper. He often resorted to breaking things. ” Why isn’t she dead?” he yelled, ” My machine can never fail.” He decided to test it once more. He scribbled on a piece of paper and entered it into his machine. He wanted his best friend, Zozo, to win One million Australian Dollars.

He could hear Zozo screaming in joy after 15 minutes. Zozo told X and his friends about his winning money. X smiled and gently patted him on the shoulder. ” Congratulations, “he said, ” You deserve it, my friend.” Now he knew that his invention was perfect. Someone else had interfered in his plan. He wanted to find out the culprit. He had a plan ready to flush out the conspirator. He had a maniacal grin on his face.

Grace couldn’t shake off the feeling that Sharmila wasn’t yet out of danger. However, she didn’t realize until now that she was also in a similar position. She had foiled an evil plan by a criminal mastermind. Why did he hate Sharmila so much that he wanted to kill her? A crazy monster is out to wreak havoc on the world.
